I went to see the o.b. this morning for my two-week check-in, and everything seems to be fine. What really freaked me out, though, was the fact that I've gained close to eight pounds in two weeks. When I stepped on the scale, I thought my eyeballs were going to fall right out my head. I thought maybe I should take off my blazer and try again, but frankly, I'm just not that deluded to think that a light-weight jacket weighs 8 pounds. This does explain why my maternity jeans are suddenly too small.
The doc wasn't concerned about my water retention, told me that it's normal around this time, and that if I was really upset about it I could cut back on salt and carbs (yeah, that'll happen - as I type, I'm counting down the minutes to lunchtime as I'm planning for some Chinese take-out).
The doctor was a little afraid that the baby was lying sideways, and even after locating his heartbeat with the doppler wasn't convinced his head was in the right direction. Hell, I wasn't either. I could have sworn up and down that he was laying sideways. It felt like he's been headbutting my ribs all month.
The doctor went and pulled out a prehistoric ultrasound machine to check his position, telling me that if he wasn't head down we might have to "have a discussion about what to do." El niņo, however, is head-down pointing towards the left side of my pelvis. You can't really feel his head from the outside. His little knees are what's been beating the hell out of my right ribs. Hopefully in the next week or so he'll "drop" and take some of the pressure of my diaphram.

Posted by: Cass at October 18, 2006 12:00 PMYa know, I've been considering the pee vs. pain debate for a couple of weeks now. I still haven't figured out which I can tolerate more.
