When you know you'll be leaving your current job within the near term, it's just hard to be extremely productive. I've been passing off a lot of my tasks to my assistant who knows full well I'm leaving (my boss doesn't). There are other projects that I don't even bother starting on.
The thing is, I won't be leaving here until the last full week of July. Now that I've actually accepted the new position, I'm basically just sitting here collecting a paycheck. I'm not being insubordinate or anything like that, but I'm sure as hell not bending over backwards to accomplish everything on my boss's beck and call list. Frankly, I don't need him to give me a good reference. He asked me earlier to make up some Excel spreadsheet with particular figures on it, and I stated quite briefly that I didn't have those figures because they hadn't been reported. He did the "you're supposed to have them, blah blah" song and dance routine which made me quite happy that I decided not to stay here. How can I have what NOBODY WAS TOLD TO GIVE ME BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO? "Well, I need those because for now on that's how I'm going to figure out who's going to stay here." Should have told me that three weeks ago, then.
So, in the next 30 days or so, my "job" will be figuring out a procedure for rolling 401(k)s over and choosing an employee health insurance plan that isn't going to break my bank for the next year since I'll be paying COBRA expenses.
On July 25th or so, I'm changing all my phone numbers. Fuckers better not call me at home asking me about how to put payroll together.

Posted by: Erica at June 12, 2006 01:38 PMI think you should give them the same notice that you're leaving that they've given you that they need you to do something for them.
But then, I'm spiteful like that.
Posted by: Chad at June 12, 2006 03:22 PMYup, that be the one. The only worry I have at this point is that when I go off to training, I have to share a hotel room wih someone who smells heavily of patchouli and talks about free love in her sleep.
I think I'm going to give two weeks notice, but I'm going to make my termination date the start of a week-long vacation. It'll take at least that long to be reprogrammed. For that final two weeks, I'll basically be training my current assistant on the fine art of selective hearing.
