A pyrrhic victory.

For those of you who are somewhat unclear on what I do for a living, I work at a professional placement agency. Erm, "headhunters," if you prefer. I don't do that. My job in the office is to do pretty much everything that everyone else doesn't. That means dealing with vendors and managing payroll and etc.

At any moment I'm thisclose to quitting. My job in and of itself isn't that bad, however some circumstances really push me over the edge. For example - my job is becoming increasingly customer service-oriented. I don't do customer service.

You see, we started up a contract staffing segment of the business last year, and I don't know if you're aware of this, but part-time laborers tend not to be as polite as professionals.

So, occasionally you get some contractor whose direct deposit didn't go through or check didn't get to his house a day early like it always has been. They don't hash words. They bitch and moan, contrary to how foolish they sound, and whether its their fault or someone else's.

There was one guy yesterday who called into the office at least 8 times, drunk or else stoned out of his mind, complaining that he didn't get his check last week and how his car note was due.

I told him his pay would be this week and not last week for a variety of reasons. He went on and on about how X, Y, and Z was told to him and continued to ask how he was going to pay his car note. (I was curious whether paying his car note a week late would be grounds for repossession, but I didn't say anything). This guy worked four days of a temporary job and hasn't been hired back.

I should note here that the state of this guy's finances are none of my business, but he should never have been sent out on the job to start with. When he came into the office to fill out his paper work his eyes were bloodshot and he was wearing sunglasses indoors. HELLO, DRUG/ALCOHOL PROBLEM???? Anyway, he raised a big stink yesterday. Ended up calling corporate and having them deal with him.

They're going to FedEx him a check, but by the time it gets to him, HE COULD HAVE WAITED FOR HIS REGULAR CHECK!

These fuckers make me want to quit on the spot.
