I just checked Blue Cross Blue Shield's website to see if they'd been billed for my hospital visit yet.
Yes.
Ouch.
My insurance plan is pretty crappy. Since 86% of the office is younger than thirty, we assumed we'd be healthy and have a plan that requires us to pay $35 copays because it meant we'd have less money docked from our pay each month to pay for our portion of the plan. Typically, BCBS will pay 60% after I've met my deductible. My deductible is $1000. I've paid $0 towards the dedctible this year.
If my calculations are correct, I owe about $3500.
I gues this means that breaking any bones is out of the question.
Posted by Tiffany at March 19, 2005 04:23 PMOuch! How about Scott's insurance? Can he cover you as well to make up the difference (in the future)? You guys really need to get up to speed on that and spend some extra money if you even consider having a family. My kids are mostly healthy, but we still go to the doctor a lot (that kinda happens when you have three - contrary to popular belief, they're never all sick at the same time and even if they were it's still a separate office visit for each - sigh). I'd hate to have insurance that kept me from going when we needed to just to save money. Also, with even half decent insurance coverage you should only spend a couple thousand to have a baby (from conception to birth, that is - any scientific methods used to GET pregnant cost a freakin' fortune, unless you have the unbelievably fantastic insurance I had when I worked all those years ago).
I assume no one in your office has a family. If this is the kind of insurance they are going to offer, you may lose some good candidates in the future. You should really have an 80/20 PPO at least. No HMO's. I know it's hard with a small office, but aren't you part of a larger entity? Can't they do better group plans than that?
Even though you're young, you never know, right? I feel so old right now - but that's okay, I had older friends that counselled me about stuff when I was young, too.
I hope the surgery was less painful than the bill...

The reason I work for the State is for the bennies... they don't pay enough to pay all my bills but "SURGERY FOR EVERYONE"! We go a lot to the doc and we have $10 co-pay. The surgery and all the in home nursing I have had over this last year have been 100% covered.
if I was a little more healthy I would hate my situation... because I am all screwed up I am feeling fine.
Strange what makes us happy as age drives up on us at 100MPH
