Long long long long week--glad it's over.
I came to the realization this week that I'm becoming burnt out from work. I've heard my boss telling a client that if people have to work overtime then they're being overworked. That's so ironic I could barf.
Well, I don't work overtime, because as you well know being salaried sort of constitutes that you should get your job done within a certain time period and then take your ass home. There ain't no extra.
I go home every weeknight and every friday afternoon with a stack of paperwork from three days ago in my inbox.
Sure, I could stay late and do it, but I would never catch up. It's perpetual. One project trumps another and eventually the routine cogs and gears stuff gets put on the back burner. Then the pot explodes and you spend all of Monday and Tuesday running around like a chicken with your head cut off.
*ramble ramble*
I spend so much of the day doing things on other peoples' time that I don't even bother setting a real schedule for myself. It's "I'm ready to do this now, so you are, too" from them. So, I stop what I'm doing and go complete whatever mundane task it is they need me to do. Ten minutes later I get back to my magic pile of shit and have someone ask "Have you done xyz yet?"
No, I haven't done xyz, because you pulled me away from it to watch you plug numbers into a spreadsheet.
I've come to realize that "Are you ready to *insert task here* with me?" is really a politically correct signal for "Bring your ass on NOW."
*screams into a pillow*
breathe. breathe.
The problem with working with sales people is that they're overly obstinate and always have to have their way. The problem with working with FIVE sales people is constantly hearing them try to get the last word in on things they have no intellectual authority on.
I'm eating little ulcers into my mouth over the fact that my job description changes on a daily basis. While I'm not at the point of making cold calls yet, I get to do the dirty work of "Tell them to do it NOW" and "Threaten them and tell them we'll take our service away!" and "Make them do it sooner!" calls.
[Word to the wise to anyone in general: never have someone else follow up with a person on a task that they are 4,583 steps removed from, i.e. having me call someone to ask them to bend over backwards to do something as if they're supposed to know who the fuck I am, and since you spoke to them five minutes ago...never mind]
Oh, and I was almost impaled by the bathroom light cover at work.
