There are two different ways to get an outside line in our phone system at work: you can press nine to find the first available line, or you can push that line's button directly.
New Chick must have pushed "9" twice accidentally yesterday. You know what happens when you dial "9" and then two ones?
Yeah. You get a dispatcher calling you back telling you that someone there dialed 9-1-1 and then hung up.
I told them that everything was "aight" and that it was just a mis-dialed number.
Three minutes later, smokey pulls up in here with his little clipboard.
"You Tiffany?"
"I didn't do it," I said, and pointed to the culprit.
Don't cops have anything better to do than investigate 9-1-1 hang-ups? I don't get service that fast from frickin' Burger King!

I've had this happen before and they made me get out of bed when my husband answered the door (still don't know WHO dialed or how - kids were asleep...) to let them know that I wasn't beaten up and didn't need help to get away from my husband - they asked me if he was indeed my husband and if I was okay and had I dialed 911. I'm sure this is annoying for them, too, but I'm sure that they've been able to help someone more than once by doing this.
What I don't understand is why the firetruck AND the ambulance have to show up for a 911 call that is literally 2 blocks from the station where BOTH vehicles are parked. This happened when my dad fell and hit his head. He's one old man - that's 2 EMT's, 2 EMT/firemen and two regular firemen for one little man. However, when his old house caught fire, the firetrucks came, but no ambulance - didn't need one, but seems that would make more sense.
At least your police officers are on the ball - maybe they were just sitting having coffee and a donut waiting for something to do.

They have to assume worst case and get there ASAP. None of this "it didn't sound REALLY urgent" crap.
